The bombing of Air India Flight 182, also known as the Kanishka, occurred on June 23, 1985, as the plane was flying near Ireland. It resulted in the deaths of all 329 passengers, including 268 Canadians. Commemorative events were held in several cities, including Ottawa, Toronto, Montreal, Vancouver, and Ahakista in Ireland, to honor those who lost their lives in the attack.
In his remarks, Carney highlighted the Canadian government’s commitment to bolstering national security, disrupting terrorist networks, and tackling violent extremism in all its forms.
